Play OverviewPlay Overview

Toki Tori (2001) is a puzzle game where you traverse 2D levels and use limited resources to rescue all the eggs. Similarly to the Mario vs. Donkey Kong games, you can build bridges over gaps. Here though, you can also unlock weapons, teleportation abilities, and move walls around. The trick is putting each tool's limited number of uses to good use to solve each level.

Toki Tori is a small chick who hatches just in time to see all of the other eggs being mysteriously taken away and scattered all throughout the world. You work through the Forest Falls, Creepy Castle, Slime Sewers and Bubble Barrage to find all the eggs and return them to safety.

In each level, you move around the 2D environment, crossing platforms and bridges and up and down ladders to reach and collect every egg. You unlock different abilities, such as a Bridge-Builder, which you can utilise to bridge gaps otherwise impassable, Telewarp which allows you to move to certain close spaces, and the Freeze-o-matic, which allows you to get past enemies. All of these have a limited number of uses in each level, so careful and thoughtful deployment is essential.

The game was originally released on the Gameboy Colour, and then remastered on other systems. A sequel, which replaced the tools with abilities, was also released:
  • Toki Tori (2001) GBC, (2008) Wii, (2009) iPhone, (2010) PC and Mac, (2011) Playstation 3, (2013) Wii U, (2015) 3DS, (2018) Switch and (2020) Android.
  • Toki Tori 2 (2013) Wii U, Pc and Mac, (2016) Playstation 3, and (2018) Switch.

Toki Tori 2+ is an enhanced version of Toki Tori 2 with extra levels. The latest major release was the Original Toki Tori, which was remastered for the Nintendo Switch in March 2018.
