Overview
Tower of Hell is a Roblox game about navigating a vertical obstacle course without falling off. You play by moving and jumping your way across gaps, travelators and avoiding lasers in a similar fashion to Total Wipeout TV show. It stands out because of the increasing pressure to not fall and the ingenious nature of the generated obstacle courses (often called "Obby" in Roblox). It's one of the most popular Roblox games getting over 1 billion visits a year (in 2022).
It's a game about the increasing tension of climbing ever higher, knowing if you fall you have to start again. Other players are trying to get to the top at the same time which, along with the limited time, adds to the tension and pressure. Once the time is up, a new level is generated and the challenge starts again.
As you progress and (hopefully) make it to the top of the tower you are rewarded with visual enhancements to your character. You can also use Robux (purchased with real money) to access VIP Servers and create customised games.
The result is a game that has become popular because of the sheer scale of the challenge. The levels use all manner of means to frustrate and foil the player. This can be really hard to make jumps, dangers that kill them or just hiding where to go next behind platforms by using matching colours.
