Play Overview
Turnip Boy Robs a Bank (2024) is the shooting role-playing sequel to Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion. Unlike its predecessor, where you used swords and other close-combat weapons, here you use guns to defeat security as you break into the Botanical Bank and steal its treasures. Skill-based precision shooting and an even more outlandish story are combined with the first game's tongue-in-cheek humour to create a unique and lighthearted challenge.
You again play Turnip Boy, who, after paying off his debt to Mayor Onion, turns to a life of crime and sets his sights on the ultimate prize - all the treasures and secrets held within the Botanical Bank. As you travel ever deeper into the bank, you face off against the police and security guards, interrogate hostages, steal the treasures kept in the vaults, and uncover the mysterious history lurking in the shadows. All this is with the same clever writing, subversive humour, and fourth-wall-breaking references as the first game.
You start with a simple gun, but as you progress, you find (and steal) more advanced weaponry that lets you deal more damage and attack faster. You move and shoot simultaneously and can do so in different directions, similar to other twin-stick shooter games like Hades. You must constantly move to avoid the barrage of attacks that opponents let loose on you, all while ensuring you aim your shots correctly. It takes skill and practice to perfect, but overcoming this challenge is essential.
The result is a game that offers a tough challenge through its fast-paced shooting and dodging that requires you to experiment with different weapons and strategies until you succeed while also providing a layered and amusing story.
