Play Overview
The villain Magikoopa Kamek turns all the Yoshis into bundles of yarn for his master Baby Bowser and scatters them across all the worlds. Players control the two Yoshis that manage to avoid being transformed and set off to rescue their woolly friends.
Yoshi now creates and throws yarn balls that he can use to clear blocked paths, tangle up enemies, or knit together platforms and warp pipes. Players can tug at stray yarn to unravel walls, reveal hard-to-reach areas and possibly find hidden collectibles.
The 3DS/2DS game is called Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World and adds some additional levels and the Poochy side-kick, but it is only single-player. The 3DS game offers enhanced assistance for young players as well as a Yoshi designer where you can draw your own colours and patterns on your character.
Our examiner, Rich Adams, first checked Yoshi's Woolly World 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Andy Robertson and updated 7 months ago.

Skill Level
4+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it’s important for parents and guardians to ensure they understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. The two-player game mode lets very young players participate and get help from more skilled players. There are also badges you can unlock to make it easier and a Mellow Mode ideal for super young players.
Costs
- In-Game Purchases: Additional in-game purchases are offered for items that enhance the experience.
To unlock new characters ammibo figures can be placed on the switch to be used in the game. They are sold separately. There are special plush Yoshi amiibo that activate "Double Yoshi" in single-player mode. You can also use all the other amiibos to unlock different pattern outfits for your character.
The 3DS version supports the Poochy amiibo that unlocks more time attack modes and special skins. You can also use the amiibo to bring Poochy into a level to help you (which you can do without the amiibo once it is unlocked in the game).
It's important to set up your accounts and devices appropriately. More information is on our Financial Resources page.
