The Uncharted Franchise

This is a series of five adventure games that share the same cast of characters. The format is similar in each game. It starts as an adventure into the jungle for treasure, where an onslaught of fisticuffs and shooting henchmen is punctuated by tongue-in-cheek A-Team-style dialogue. One clue inevitably leads to another – and more henchmen to shoot at, along with underground caves to explore.

You’d be forgiven for dismissing the game as disposable, trashy entertainment, but there’s more here than the violence or quips, as Nate meets Elena and a rollercoaster romance threads its way through the action. From the fling in the first game to an unexpected encounter in the second, they are married, separated and reunited before the shooting finishes in the fourth game.

Over five games, we get a window on Nate’s obsession with treasure hunting, and the cost of this to the rest of his life. Why father figure Sully is so important to him and how he has been shaped by a tumultuous relationship with his brother, broken childhood and absent parents. Will he finally hang up his revolver and settle down with Elena?
