Although it looks like a classic shoot-em-up like Nemesis or Gradius this is as much a role-playing adventure as it is about firepower. You start by picking your crew and equipping your ship before blasting off to battle bizarre enemies, mine gems, find weapons and install devices to enhance your craft.
As you progress you unlock your crews' skills and improve the abilities and firepower of your submarine. Along with the gun battles, you guide the cats to explore the asteroids for gems that can be spent for more upgrades in shops. You can also meet and pick-up cat specialists too (mechanics, pilots and scientists) to help operate your craft more efficiently.
The result is a game that combines the fun of shoot-em-ups with the progression and exploration of role-play games. You spend as long tinkering with your craft's weapons and crews skills as you do shooting things. This is all wrapped up in a feline story full of interesting and appealing cats.

7+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Younger players who can cope with the shooting elements can enjoy this. You don't need to deal with the detail of the role-play strategy if you don't want to.

A simpler game from the developer with similar theme is Aqua Kitty. It offers a Defender style experience.
You can select from 5 difficulty settings. This makes enemies easier to kill and slows the speed of enemy bullets. Relaxed mode is designed to be really approachable - is included as a mode for young children or those that need an easier experience. You can also adjust difficulty by setting permadeath, or selecting characters with more armour or faster moving characters.
Although the game requires quick reactions it doesn't put you on the clock at any point so is low pressure in this way. The bosses are slightly more time pressured but again there is no time limit.
In terms of navigation, early level aim to guide and stay linear in what you need to do. Later levels are more open structured so you need to think a bit more. Objectives are marked on your map (such as cats to find, or certain enemies to destroy). You can only save progress at in-game beacons and you need to manually do so. The game autosaves after level completion.
You can turn off/on elements of the hud (such as showing which buttons to press) to over information overload and enhance visual clarity. The mini-map moves dynamically as you do, and can be resized or turned off.
Vibration on all formats can be turned off if wanted. On PS5 we have 3 settings, off, normal and enhanced, which add lots of subtle extra vibrations to match events happening in game.
There is one potential jump scares of the Level 3 mechanical worm boss that pops out of a hole. But it's not super fast.
Characters have small speech bubbles which appear when you move close. This acts as a reminder and visual indicator of being able to speak to them. If asked they will remind you of your task. Text in general is high contrast although there are some instances that are lower contrast when the item is not available and greyed-out.
