Back 4 Blood (2021) is a multiplayer shooting game where a team of four players work together to survive zombie-infested areas.

The game is the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, a highly popular zombie survival team game from 2008. It is developed by the creators of that game and features the same style of cooperative teamwork that made the original so popular.

In teams of four, you play through missions fighting off infected—living humans. Your goal isn't to beat the enemies, but to reach the next safe area alive. The game tracks the players' location and scenario so it can add or remove items and enemies to make survival tricky.

You can play against enemies in the campaign, or against other teams in competitive matches. Yes, the Back 4 Blood campaign can be played solo with 3 AI teammates, and includes online drop-in and drop-out cooperative play with up to 3 friends.

Although it looks like a simple shooting game, the focus is much more on cooperation and teamwork. To aid this aspect of play you can see coloured outlines of teammates through walls, and resuscitate downed comrades.

New to this game is a card system. You choose a deck of cards at the start of each level. As you play them each card adjusts various elements of gameplay, such as modifying the player's health, damage, and stamina. The game can play Corruption cards to hinder your progress by spawning extra enemies, activating a fog effect, and increase the size of the horde.
