Play Overview
Blokus is a strategy game where you compete to have the fewest unplayed tiles. You add Tetris-shaped tiles to a shared board that is split into 400 small squares. It is a game about choosing to play the right tile at the right moment, be too slow to get rid of your higher-scoring tiles and you end up blocked for space.
You start by laying out all of your 21 coloured Tetris-shaped tiles in front of you. The tiles vary in size and shape from one square up to shapes made up of five squares. Each turn you place a tile but only its corner must touch at least one of your other tiles.
As you play, the board fills up and tactics mount. For example, to avoid being hemmed in by other player's tiles (of a different colour) you need to place tiles to cross over to areas with more space. When you can no longer play any pieces, you count up each square of the shapes that you have remaining and the winner is the one with the least points.
What starts as a simple tile-laying puzzle, quickly becomes a strategic battle for space that requires spatial and forward-thinking decisions. You need to use your tiles carefully and keep an eye on the placement of others. Some may choose a more aggressive land-grabbing strategy than others, so when playing with this type of player you need to be even more vigilant.
