Play OverviewPlay Overview

Anki Overdrive (2010) is a physical slot-car racing game you control with your smartphone. The cars are intelligent and follow the track so you can focus on steering them round the best racing line and triggering virtual weapons. Although discontinued, second-hand packs are now much cheaper than they were.

The Starter Pack comes with enough track for a range of circuits and two cars. This can be expanded with more track, cars and even trucks to extend gameplay. There is a theme Fast and Furious pack that includes cars and characters from that film franchise.

Unlike Scalextric, Anki Overdrive cars are powered rather than the track. This means you can flex the track or use it outside without problems. The cars can be loaded with a computer opponent of varying difficulty. Each of these virtual drivers has a backstory and voiced personality as you race. This offers an excellent single-player challenge. As you progress you can upgrade your car with new virtual weapons or special moves.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Anki Overdrive 4 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 19 months ago.
