Play OverviewPlay Overview

Beat! Talk! (2021) is a rhythm game where you press buttons while speaking out loud to learn the syncopation and tempo of speaking English, with supported languages being Japanese, Korean and Chinese. As if that wasn't unusual enough, in the game you are giving TED talks on different subjects as a context for speech.

Play involves picking a topic and then learning to following the rhythm of each series of phrases in the talk. You slowly learn the bouncy beat that English has. The intention is for you to press a button and speak the word out loud at the same time, guided by the game's natural pronunciation.

It offers an unusual aspect of language learning. Not vocabulary, listening or simple speaking, but how native speakers pronounce and pace their speech. There are comprehensive tutorials to help you overcome and weaknesses. And there are 40 humorous and varied speeches with 800 phrases to work through.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Beat! Talk! 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 21 months ago.
