Play OverviewPlay Overview

Camel Up (2014) is a crazy push-your-luck game where you bet on and influence camel races. Each turn you can move the camels, bet on which will win or place tokens to slow or speed things up. It's clever because it rewards players who make bets early and it's fun because the camels stack and carry each other along in unpredictable ways.

Play involves taking turns to perform one of your actions. If you rollĀ a particular colour dice you give that camel a chance to get ahead. If you pick a betting slip you can increase your potential winnings. Or you can influence the race by cheering or booing.

There's an added complexity because the camels stack neatly on top of each other. This means that if the red camel lands on the yellow camel, the next time the yellow camel moves it takes the red camel with it. It's a simple idea that adds chances to trick and double-cross other players as they attempt to get the camel they bet on to the front.

The updated version of the game in 2018 improved the artwork, game board and dice quality. It also adds some new game styles. The stand-out feature is the new rogue camels that run the race in the opposite direction to add an even greater challenge to predicting the winner.

The result is a lot of fun, with a surprising amount of depth. By paying attention to the camel movement as well as the bets that other players have made you can set in place plans to turn things around at the last moment.
