OverviewOverview

Chessplosion is an action, puzzle game where you drop chess pieces on a board to trigger bombs in the shape of their related chess moves. Your aim is to use the different pieces (and bomb attacks) to trap opponents like Bomberman. No prior chess knowledge is required, as the optional tutorials will get you up to speed.

There's an Adventure mode where you battle enemies and bigger bosses. Or in Puzzle mode, you aim to break targets with limited bombs. Then in Survival mode, you need to dodge explosions. You can play against friends or the computer in Battle Mode.

Defeat a variety of enemy types and boss fights in Adventure Mode, inspired by the movement patterns of chess pieces. Avoid charging Rooks, don't get shot by Bishops' diagonal projectiles, and watch out for stomping Knights.

With 8 bosses and over 90 stages in Adventure Mode, over 100 target-breaking puzzles in Puzzle Mode and 10 stages of explosion-dodging challenges in Survival Mode there is tonnes to do. Add to that the 12 different arenas in Battle Mode with up to 4 players and this will keep you entertained for days.

It's a game that is fun, approachable and accessible, whether or not you already love chess.

Skill Rating

This game is enjoyed by 8+ year-olds as it's a good match for their ability and maturity. Provided you can keep up with the speed of the game it's a game you can enjoy from a very young age. It's a nice way to introduce some chess concepts.

AccessibilityAccessibility

You can set the game speed to as little as 20% and give yourself infinite health to make it unfailable. There's a training mode to experiment with the different pieces. You can skip any puzzles you get stuck on.

Although menus wrap when you tap a button if you hold down the direction when you hit the bottom the menu doesn't wrap and makes a distinctive sound.

Controls are a single stick and one button. You can use the D-Pad or Left Stick for movement.

The game is generally in high contrast, you can also change the colour scheme to your requirements. There's a sound to indicate when you or an enemy loses health from being hit.
