Play Overview
Concrete Jungle (2015) is a city-building puzzle game. It's the follow up for MegaCity. Rather than manage resources like a traditional city management strategy game, here you place cards to create buildings, parks, amenities and services on each square. The challenge is to maximise the land value for your houses, something that requires not only forward planning, but cunning and lateral thinking.
You have a deck of cards that can create different buildings when placed on the city grid. Each building affects its surroundings in different ways, adding or removing value in various patterns. The aim is to clear city columns of buildings and gaining the required number of points for each. As the city grows, bigger and better new buildings can be added to your deck.
As you progress you can hone and refine your deck like other deck-building games. Find good combinations or useful cards to get you out of a bind. Care is needed, however, as the wins in one column often have unforeseen costs and consequences in the proceeding columns.
You can play through a story campaign that sets up different scenarios and challenges. You can also engage in competitive city planning against the compute or other players in the same room. Or how about taking turns to place buildings in the same city and battle over the affection of your citizens.
With over 230 cards, 8 playable characters each with their own skill trees and a fully voiced narrative, Concrete Jungle over delivers on quality content while not diminishing the genius puzzle game at its heart.
