Dodgeball Academia is a sports game that focuses as much on story as sporting action. You play Otto, who hopes to become the ultimate dodgeball player. To do this you need to build a diverse team and learn new skills.

Play involves exploring the campus, making friends and discovering rivals. Along the way, you take on dodgeball battles. These are three-on-three real-time challenges with a variety of different twists to the rules. Quests and mini-games extend the play to create that classic role-play experience all with a dodgeball theme. As you progress you level up Otto and his friends. You need to make choices about each character to ensure you develop a balanced team through the customisable party progression system.

The combination of sport and role-play isn't new (the likes of Golf Story or Mario Tennis games have done this before) but the campus setting and light-hearted visuals keep things fresh. The result is a game that invites exploration as you discover the secrets of the Dodgeball Academy across its vast, diverse, and full of life campus. Saved by the Bell meets Pokemon.

This game has been rated PEGI 7.

The dodgeball battles are in real-time and quite high pressure. You often have to hammer the button to grab the ball. You also have to time button presses accurately to catch the ball. But you can change the difficulty by specifying how much damage you take or deal. This ranges from 0-100% so can be used to create a god mode.

The game has a language learner mode where you can quickly switch between different translations. This is ideal for people who want to learn English, Japanese, French, Spanish or a whole range of languages.

There are visual indicators of who you are targeting in battles, and both audio and visuals to indicate when you hit or are hit. Characters you can interact with have an indicator over their head. The game has a small map on the screen all the time that indicates people around you. You can pull up a bigger (zoom-able) map that also highlighted quests and where to go next.
