Doom Eternal Review
Posted: 4 months ago, last updated 5 days ago.
You play an unnamed space marine battling demonic forces. Although the tactics and speed vary through the series, always present is imperative to take switch action and bring the fight to the enemy.
To do well you need to develop tactics that use your weapon, movement and map geography to your advantage. There's a large arsenal of weapons collected during play and can be used at will without the need to reload. Different types of enemies present unique challenges: Revenant, Pinky, Mancubus, and Cyberdemon. Along with the single play campaigns a big focus of the enjoyment is the online multiplayer modes such as team deathmatch.

Doom Eternal is rated PEGI 18 due depictions of graphic violence towards human-like characters. There are frequent depictions of graphic violence towards human-like characters. The vast majority of attacks cause dismemberment, decapitation or mutilation. Large amounts of blood and gore are visible upon impact of attacks. There is also a considerable amount of injury detail visible. As attacks make contact, skin can be seen ripping open and bones becoming visible, poking out through the skin. The majority of the violence is inflicted using powerful projectile weapons. However, there are a number of melee weapons such as chainsaws and swords that can also be used. The level of violence is the same regardless of what weapon is being used. When an enemy has been staggered the player gains the option to perform a 'glory kill', which is powerful move that instantly kills the enemy. These moves are particularly graphic as the camera zooms in and focuses on the gore.
ESRB MATURE 17+ for Blood and Gore and Intense Violence. Players use machine guns, shotguns, laser rifles, and blasters to kill demons in frenetic combat. Large blood-splatter effects occur frequently as enemies get decapitated and/or dismembered during combat. Players can also use blades and chainsaws to dismember and decapitate enemies at close range. Combat is fast-paced, highlighted by realistic gunfire, large explosions, and screams of pain.
Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.
Some of the game text is in a stylized font that can be hard to read, especially in fast action combat situations. The subtitles are in a clear font and legible, but aren't especially big even at the largest setting.
