Play OverviewPlay Overview

Evergarden (2018) is a puzzle game where you grow gardens by combining plants into strange new forms. You use the tile-based layout to populate each area in flora in connect-four style.

It's a little hard to decipher initially but soon turns into a nuanced puzzle where you combine flowers to cultivate and match them to a target pattern on the octagonal game board. This starts easily but gets complex as the space on the game board diminishes.

This matching process evolves as you progress, with opportunities to create types of flowers, new challenges and an opening up of how extensively you can interact with the grid. Over time the separate levels reveal themselves to be part of a larger interconnected whole. It grows from a simple puzzle game into something with both narrative and depth.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Evergarden 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 5 months ago.
