You explore Teer Fradee and all of the dangers it possesses, developing your character along the way. You slowly gain weapons and skills that enable you to approach the challenges in different ways: dynamic magic, heavy-hitting two-handed weapons, fast-striking one-handed weapons, powerful pistols and rifles, sneaky traps, or a combination of styles.
The game starts slow as your journey begins the city of Serene, here you are provided an introduction to the world and the purpose of departing for Teer Fradee. Your time in Serene serve as a tutorial and introduces some of the factions and their goals, taking the time needed to flesh out GreedFall's world. In Serene, you have the chance to try both combat and diplomacy before bringing your skills to Teer Fradee.

Rated PEGI 18+ for violence. Cut scenes in the game contain somewhat more graphical examples of violence, a case in point is a scene in which a human character is strung up by his ankle and a knife is thrown at him, this enters his right eye socket and the tip of the blade emerges from the rear of his head, this is accompanied by some blood effects; another is of a female character that is seen in a seated position with her hands tied behind her back around a wooden pole, the Inquisitor having asked some questions places the toe of his boot against her throat and proceeds to apply some weight to her exposed throat causing much suffering and she eventually dies or is rendered unconscious.
Rated ESRB MATURE 17+ for blood, language, partial nudity, suggestive themes, and violence. Players use swords, axes, and flintlock pistols to kill enemies; combat is frenetic, accompanied by realistic gunfire, screams of pain, and blood-splatter effects. Some areas depict bloodstains on the ground and/or corpses lying in pools of blood. The game references suggestive material in the dialogue (e.g., “We could ask at the brothel if it belongs to a prostitute”; “How can these so-called religious men dare abuse these young people?”); in one sequence, players can initiate a cutscene in which a woman straddles and kisses a man on a bed—no sexual acts are depicted, as the scene fades to black. A handful of female creatures are depicted topless. The word “sh*t” is heard in the game.
