Play OverviewPlay Overview

Hot Lava (2019) is a running and jumping game where you mustn't touch the floor because it's covered in lava. It takes the childhood playground game online as you work to cross nostalgia-filled maps on your own or with other players

Like other The Floor Is Lava games, the challenge is to find the fastest route through the environments using parkour-type traversal. Different hazards join the lava to hamper your progress: toxic waste, bottomless pits, and crushers. There is also a range of achievements to go for on each.

There is an augmented reality mode on iOS that transforms your living room into a lava-filled obstacle course. You can interact with the real world like never before, blurring the lines between the physical and virtual worlds.

You can choose different characters like Lord Sludge and Poizone. Each one has unique moves and outfits. For example, Poizone’s Pounce can defy gravity with a powerful double jump while Sludge’s Slime Surge gives players a surf boost wherever they want.

As you progress you collect lava crystals via checkpoints, finished and the XP shards scattered throughout the game. This enables you to level up each character with new items and outfits.

Although Hot Lava is not on Android the Hot Lava Floor offers a similar experience, although less polished and with adverts. Hot Lava PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch are not planned currently.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Hot Lava 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 8 months ago.

Skill Level

7+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Younger players need to be able to navigate the areas in first person perspective. There's also some precise timing to the jumps and holds you need to learn. It's the sort of game where you need to fail to get better, so some patience and persistence is important.
