Play OverviewPlay Overview

Itorah (2022) is a running, jumping and fighting game similar to Dead Cells, where you explore a vibrant, handcrafted world, solve a mystery and defeat enemies. The game stands out with an artistic style inspired by Mesoamerican culture that adds a depth to the game's narrative, which focuses on identity, self-discovery and heroism.

You play Itorah, who lives as the sole remaining human in the realm of Nahucan - otherwise populated by strange mask-wearing creatures. On your quest to uncover the secrets of the past and why the humans disappeared, you discover a deadly plague that threatens to consume everything.

You jump and run through the various hand-painted levels, dodging chasms and avoiding obstacles. You also need to defeat a wide array of enemies, including some difficult boss-fights, using your weapons, which you can throw, swing and block attacks with. You talk to and interact with lots of different characters, through which you can uncover the secrets of your past.

It's a unique blend of platformer, fighting game and role-play that tells an intriguing story with deep and impactful themes to be told, and offers an opportunity for learning about Mesoamerican art and culture.

Our examiner, Ben Kendall, first checked Itorah 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Ellen Robertson and updated 3 weeks ago.
