Play Overview
Love - A Puzzle Box Filled with Stories (2020) is a puzzle game about regret. You interact with and explore a single apartment building. As you do you learn about the lives of the people that live there. You can manipulate the building to move floors between the past and present. As you understand each person's lives you can use this time-bending mechanic to change their lives.
One half of the screen is black and white and represents the past. The other half of the screen is in colour for the present. Rotating each floor moves the rooms between the past and the present. As play develops you take pairs of pictures, one from the past and one from the present to see how a person's life has changed over time.
As well as uncovering what happened, you can also rotate the apartment to adjust how things unfold, but must take care of unintended consequences. It's an "experiment in storytelling that combines diorama puzzles and point-and-click adventures".
"Everyone has experienced stories of love and regret, both romantic and otherwise – and we’ve all been in moments where we find ourselves stuck, unable to move on from the past. Each puzzle in LOVE will take the residents to a place of peace with their experiences.” - Wireframe
The game takes a little while to click, but when it does it creates a unique way to find empathy and reflection about the decisions we make and how the past holds us in ways we don't always understand.
