Play OverviewPlay Overview

Megabyte Punch (2013) is run, jump and fight game where you play a customisable robot. Along with the retro visuals, as you defeat enemy robots you collect their special parts to make yourself the ultimate fighter. At the end you can then battle your robot in Smash Bros style arenas.

Play involves making precise jumps and hits. It's a combination of platforming and brawling. But the real fun is to be had in the surprisingly deep customisation. You can apply the parts you have knocked off your enemies to different locations on your torso. This will both help and hamper you as each part has benefits and pitfalls.

Whether you play on your own or with 4 player split screen on the Switch version, there's lots of fun to be had here. The genius is the balance of simple combat with complex plug and play robot building.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Megabyte Punch 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 20 months ago.
