Play OverviewPlay Overview

Monomals (2019) is a game about fishing and music. You drop your line into the water, catch a fish and make music along the way. There are different animal DJs to choose from, each with a different sound and 21 different underwater courses to fish in.

Completing these levels grants you access to different sounds instruments, drums and what have you. These are used in the song-created part of the game to craft musical masterpieces with simple tapping and dragging. You can then listen to your songs while you play subsequent levels.

Because the game is online, you can share your creations and rate other people's music to rise or fall through the charts. There are also weekly contests for creating the best of a certain kind of music.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Monomals 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 8 weeks ago.

Rated PEGI 3 suitable for all ages. Most stages in the game feature simple, fish-like enemies, which will attack the player's characters. These enemies can be defeated by dashing into them, which causes them to fly backwards and explode in a puff of smoke, leaving behind a coin. If the player gets hit, part of the fishing line trailing the creature will become transparent. The line will slowly fill up and return to normal, but if the player gets hit while part of the line is transparent, they will be defeated and respawn at the latest checkpoint, as well as lose some coins in the process. There never is any visible harm or hurt as part of the reactions.

Rated 9+ in the App Store.
