Overboard is a murder mystery narrative game played in reverse. You murder your husband at the start of the game and then try and get away with it. It's played on a ship where the characters are affected by your choices and change their actions accordingly. You have limited time to plant evidence, find accomplices and frame other people. When you fail, you try again from the start, but with the added knowledge of who knows what, when and where.

You move around the ship talk to other passengers and the crew. Each decision not only impacts the outcome but also take real game time. You not only need to figure out what you need to do but when you need to do it and in what order.

If you decide to lie that your husband slept with you last night, you better make sure you mess up the bedsheets. When you realise another passenger finds an incriminating earring on the deck, you better get there before them on your next attempt.

Blackmail a spy. Fall in love. Murder a rival. Cheat at cards. Drug a witness. Lie, befriend, betray, console, sneak, seduce, steal, borrow, pray and eavesdrop your way to innocence. Use every clue, piece of evidence, other suspect, accusation, secret and lie.

PEGI 18 for Simulated Gambling.

ESRB TEEN for Suggestive Themes, Language, Use of Alcohol, Mild Violence, Simulated Gambling.

12+ on the Apple App store for 12+ Infrequent/Mild Mature or Suggestive Themes, Simulated Gambling, Sexual Content and Nudity, Profanity or Crude Humor, Cartoon or Fantasy Violence, Alcohol, Tobacco, or Drug Use or References.

In addition to the official ratings, parents should note that you can turn off Profanity. This changes words like *!@?*, *!@?*, *!@?* to non-offensive words. We spoke to the developer who confirmed there was no nudity in the game. The sexual content is an "encounter" that isn't graphically depicted but fairly euphemistically described. Kids will assume they're kissing and grown-ups will know better. The gambling aspect of the game is playing blackjack with another character for in-game money, betting and raising.

Skill Rating: This game is enjoyed by 13-15 year-olds as it's a good match for their ability and maturity. The challenge of unravelling the different character’s plans and actions requires patience, attention and lateral thinking. Although the game includes a reference to gambling and the theme is murder, younger teenagers enjoy solving the unusual mystery in different ways.

Reaction time isn't critical, but you are on the clock in the game so it is a little pressured. It's turn based so waits for input. You can rewind time on the recent choices once per game and restart at the beginning as often as you like with no penalty.

The game offers advice for each new round. You can also visit the chapel to get advice and tips from the Deity you communicate with there.

You navigate the boat by tapping on the location you want to go to. Important locations are indicated with visual flashing. Holding down buttons is optional, although holding a button is how you speed through previous conversation which eases the repetition.

The game text is generally well-sized and with good contrast. However, there is some crucial pop-up text that is small and sometimes red on black that makes it hard to read, particularly on a smaller screen.
