Play OverviewPlay Overview

PaRappa the Rapper (1997) is a bizarre rhythm game where you play a paper-thin rapping dog trying to win the heart of a flower-faced girl. You do this by pressing buttons to rap in time with the music to impress her. It creates a silly yet endearing game about rhythm, true love and cooking.

*PaRappa the Rapper (1996) available on PlayStation and later re released on PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 4.
  • Um Jammer Lammy (1999) available only on original PlayStation was a spin-off with different characters, multiplayer modes and focused more on guitar rhythm but still had similar play-style to the original.
  • PaRappa the Rapper 2 (2001) on PlayStation 2 and later re released on PlayStation 4, extended the story and gameplay difficulty that adjusted to the ability of the player. It also added a two-player Vs. Mode, in which players are given a line to rap to, which they must improve upon by free-styling better than their opponent.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked PaRappa the Rapper 4 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 16 months ago.
