Play OverviewPlay Overview

Red Dead Redemption (2010) is an adventure game set in a vast wild west open world. As you play, you meet characters, engage in shootouts and heists, and define your character's legacy in the twilight of the cowboy era. It stands out for the freedom it gives you to go and do whatever you want, and the depth of story to discover in the detailed open world.

In 1911, you play John Marston, a former gang member whose family is captured by U.S. officials and used to force you to track down and apprehend the rest of the gang. As you travel the world in search of them, you shoot enemies, meet colourful characters, and choose who you want to be. Eventually, you face off against the gang's old leader, Dutch, now a cold-blooded killer spearheading a group of Native Americans as they fight against modernisation threatening their way of life.

Play involves traversing the vast world of deserts and forests by foot and on horseback. As you travel from town to town you use different guns to hunt game and shoot brigands, bandits, and anyone who gets in your way. Depending on how you treat the characters you meet, you can maintain or destroy your honour and reputation. Undead Nightmare, an extra game mode, lets you face off against hordes of zombies.

The result is a game that offers countless ways to approach its many challenges and environments, resulting in a degree of freedom that makes for an exciting and engaging Western adventure.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 18 for Violence, Bad Language, and Gambling. This game features graphic violence towards human-like characters. Powerful and explosive weapons can be used throughout the game to incapacitate and kill various characters. If used at close range these blasts can lead to decapitation. The game also contains frequent depictions of violence towards defenceless human characters. The player has the ability to lasso and tie up any character in the game. Once a character is restrained it is possible to commit a number of violent acts, such as leaving them on train tracks for an oncoming train to hit and dragging them behind your horse whilst they are still alive. The game also features depictions of apparently motiveless killing of multiple innocent human-like characters. The player is able to freely attack and kill the civilians who populate the game world by using any of the weapons at their disposal. The reactions to the violence are all realistic in nature, with characters screaming in pain and visible wounds appearing on their bodies. There is frequent use of strong language ('*!@?*' and '*!@?*'), as well as discriminatory language, including the 'n' word. The player's character is able to take part in gambling activities, with detailed instructions provided about how to play games of chance such as poker and blackjack and how to place bets. There are infrequent depictions of characters taking their own lives by shooting.

Rated for younger players in Australia. Rated Mature Accompanied (MA 15+) for Strong Violence, Coarse Language, and Sex Scenes.
