Tchia is an adventure where you play a young girl (Tchia) who can climb, glide, swim, and sail around a beautiful archipelago. Along with the usual sandbox missions and play the game offers an unusual ability to take control (and become) any animal or object you can find.

Play involves exploring the world, meeting people and helping them with missions. You get around by becoming (and controlling) the hundreds of animals and objects you find in the world. As you do you take on their unique gameplays and abilities to travel, solve puzzles and uncover secrets. You might become a bird to fly high over the island, or a fish to discover what's in the rivers and sea, or perhaps a dog to sniff out treasure.

As you progress you discover more of the world and learn tricks to pull off stunts and dives. It's physics-driven, with weather and day-night cycles, so many of the things you do will emerge as you play in the world. Climbing, for instance, lets you ascend anything in the world whether that's a mountain, house or tree. Likewise, sailing your customizable boat requires you to work with the physics of the water and wind.

In this simulated world, there are specific things you can discover and learn. Like the tricks, you can learn to play the ukulele and find a flashlight, slingshot, compass and camera. The ukulele not only offers musical accompaniment but is a useful tool throughout the game. You play along at key story moments during rhythm sections. You can also unlock melodies as you explore the world and trigger special events like attracting animals or triggering rainfall.

The result is a heartfelt adventure with a world, story and characters deeply embedded in New Caledonia culture. This is extended by fantastical elements but even these are rooted in local landscapes, flora and fauna, music, languages, folklore and traditions of the territory.

Age RatingsAge Ratings

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for moderate violence and use of offensive gestures, including a man slashing at a baby with a knife and then throwing it. While some blood is seen on the baby's blankets, no injury detail or actual harm is shown. There are also scenes showing people apparently being swallowed by a monster. There is a sequence in which a character makes an offensive 'middle finger' gesture. At one point a man loses a hand and a chicken loses its head. While the severing of the hand and the head are not shown, there is some sight of wounds afterwards. Additionally, the chicken's headless body is seen running around and the severed hand is seen 'walking' across the ground. Younger children may find these scenes unsettling.

Rated for younger players in Australia. Rated Parent Guidance (PG) for Mild Violence, Scary Scenes, and Mild Crude Humour.
The game provides a Family Mode setting that automatically makes some of the more violent or graphic scenes in the game suitable for the whole family. Blood is removed and some cutscenes are replaced by stylized 2D renditions of the action with less detail. Note that in some instances you may still see dismemberment but not the related generated blood effects. The dialogue in the game remains the same.

Skill Level

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Younger players need to be able to navigate the large island location. Some lateral thinking and creativity are also needed to make use of being able to take control of different objects in the game to solve the environmental puzzles. There's also a strong story that needs some maturity to understand.
