Play OverviewPlay Overview

The Gardener and the Wild Vines (2021) is a running, jumping and climbing game where you use flowers growing and vines to propel yourself to the top of a tower. It's a tough game with a focus on skill, but keeps things visually light and breezy. A game that combines an exacting challenge with a fairytale aesthetic.

You play a gardener on a quest to rescue his love. To do this you travel from tower to tower to find your missing Prince. Play involves using your magic gardening shears to chop and climb your way to the top. You can target the vines to cause them to grow and then jump onto the leaves. Chain a few of this in a row and you get a boosted jump.

It's a tough reaction-focused game. You work your way to the top but can easily miss a jump and end up back on the ground. It's the sort of game that starts really hard but with some practice offers a flowing traversal that is both flexible and satisfying.

The result is a game that takes you through 28 handcrafted towers that are as much puzzles as they are reaction challenges. It's an intentionally tough game that invites repeat plays and requires quite a bit of practice (and patience).
