Play OverviewPlay Overview

The Wreck (2023) is a narrative game where you play Junon, a mother at a crossroads. She's 36 but her career has stalled, she's emotionally numb, and her personal life is falling apart. It's not unfamiliar territory for a video game these days, but The Wreck focuses on choices and interactions in the relationship between us and our mother. Called to the ER we find our estranged mother in critical condition and it's down to us to change something that rewrites history.

Play involves revisiting Junon’s memories to piece together the story of her past, including the tragic secret that lies at its centre. More than sentimental reminiscent, understanding this trauma changes how she navigates today, unlocking new conversations and possibilities.

The result is a mature visual novel about sisterhood, motherhood, grief and survival. Slowly you help Junon find peace and discover the humour, beauty and hope in even the bleakest days.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked The Wreck 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Ben Kendall and updated 13 months ago.
