Play OverviewPlay Overview

They Always Run (2021) is a pursuit game where you run, jump, fight and shoot your way to catch escapees. You play Aiden, a three-armed hero chasing the most dangerous bounties in the galaxy. You catch, slice, dice and destroy enemies while working through the side-on futuristic world. But unlike other games you directly control your attack with motion of the mouse of gesture with a stick.

It's a time when the galaxy's inhabitants have been swamped by crime since the fall of the empire. You work as a bounty hunter who must hunt down the most dangerous and elusive cutthroats in the galaxy. Some are rewarded with money, others with tips on where to find the people who caused him to fall into this life.

Play involves platforming and traversing the world. As you encounter enemies you use your third arm to deal out deadly and gruesome attacks. This not only adds gore to the experience but the need for accuracy as you learn to perform targeted attacks and throws, manipulate the environment, destroy obstacles, and wreck enemies.

As you progress you take on missions to hunt criminals, explore new worlds and civilizations. You can upgrade your equipment, gain new abilities, grow stronger and destroy anything that stands in your way.

The result is a complex story interwoven with charged and demanding gameplay. For those with the stomach for the killing, it's a fascinating look into a dark future.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 16 for Strong Violence. This game features strong bloody violence in an arcade setting. Moves are exaggerated and reactions are non-realistic, although there is an emphasis on frequent slow-motion blood effects when characters are struck with blades. Bodies remain on the ground. In one flashback scene, a man is seen kneeling on the ground as his captors prepare to shoot him, although the actual shooting is not clearly shown. The game also includes use of bad language, such as '*!@?*' and '*!@?*'.

The developer states, "the game may include violence and blood, not suitable for all ages." When you hit enemies they react in pain with splashes of blood. Once killed they fall to the ground unmoving. Some attacked are frenzied and bloody. "Ultra-violence," is how The Verge described it.
