Play Overview
There are 18-20 castles to complete in each story, and six stories, varying in difficulty from easy to hard. The easy levels are recommended for preschool age, while the hard levels are for 8-12 year olds.
Difficulty develops slowly and there are no time restrictions or penalties, so you can work out the puzzles at your own pace. Each level has a slightly different set of objects to interact with, and you develop knowledge of the workings of the castle to solve more and more complex spatial puzzles. Drop gears into machines to move barriers, block up holes with falling boxes, activate magical harps to soothe dangerous animals and collect the keys you need to progress.
Thinkrolls is a series of puzzle games for iOS and Android which includes:
- Thinkrolls 1 & 2
- Thinkrolls: Space
- Thinkrolls: Play and Code (which contains 900+ levels plus a level builder to make your own puzzles)
- Thinkrolls: Kings & Queens
Thinkrolls is designed by child psychologists as an educational game to improve children's logical thinking, problem solving, causation reasoning and perseverance. The game is colourful and appealing to younger children, especially the customisation options, while the puzzles are challenging for older children.
Our examiner, Andrea Walney, first checked Thinkrolls: Kings and Queens 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Andy Robertson and updated 9 weeks ago.

Skill Level
5+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it’s important for parents and guardians to ensure they understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. In terms of critical thinking skills, half of the game levels are easy and intended for 5-8 year olds. And half the levels are intended for 8 years and up. Parents with younger children have agreed that 3-4 year olds can get enjoyment out of the early levels, but may struggle with the later ones.
Costs
- In-Game Purchases: Additional in-game purchases are offered for items that enhance the experience.
The free version only contains one castle level with the option to buy further levels with in-app purchases.
It's important to set up your accounts and devices appropriately. More information is on our Financial Resources page.
