Play OverviewPlay Overview

Wayward Strand is a narrative game about Casey Beaumaris, an intrepid teenage journalist. You visit an airborne hospital, uncover the airship's mysteries, and explore the lives of its inhabitants. It's a Tintin-style point-and-click adventure with a complex branching story to investigate.

The game is set in the summer of 1978 as you try to make the most of your holidays. However, when your mum asks you to spend a long weekend helping out at the airborne hospital where she works a mystery is stumbled upon. With your trusty notebook, you set out to investigate.

Play involves exploring, talking to people and finding important items. You soon discover staff are overworked as they prepare for the visit of an important official, while the patients react to grief, or deal with active trauma.

As you progress you slowly uncover interlocking stories of the staff and patients on board the ship. These continue in real-time, whether you interact with them or not. You find yourself in a living breathing play with a unique narrative structure that you can freely roam about in each day.

The hospital’s residents are an eclectic cast of characters – some charming, some eccentric, some rude – each with their own desires, goals and imaginations. Every character moves and acts of their own accord, at their own pace, on their own timeline - sharing news with each other, arguing, joking, gossiping - or having a chat with Casey when she comes by.

You choose which story to be a part of by following people, having conversations, and exploring the hospital. As you spend time with the staff and patients, you learn about their lives, and, as the stories unfold, discover what Casey can do to help. Spending time with particular characters will lead you to new storylines, locations, revelations and resolutions.
