OverviewOverview

Yoshi's Crafted World is a running and jumping game where you control a friendly dinosaur, Yoshi. You work through each level, eating or jumping on enemies while searching for hidden items and collectables.

The game world is made to look like it is handcrafted and can be flipped to see behind objects. This gives the experience a tactile feel and invites exploration. It's a more explorative take on the Mario style platform games from Nintendo.

There is real variety here, not only in how the game looks but how it is played. Many levels have unique ways of interacting and progressing. For example, using magnets to create platforms and move obstacles, using a dinosaur skull to crash through platforms or a punching contraption to clear the way.

You can also unlock some really creative costumes for Yoshi to wear while you are playing. These sound like a bit of fluff, but the range of options here makes it a nice addition.

This game has been rated ESRB EVERYONE.

Skill Rating: This game is enjoyed by 5-14 year-olds as it's a good match for their ability and maturity. Very young players can enjoy the Mellow Mode that reduces damage and lets you fly. Parents and children can work together in a mode that lets one player carry the other. One of you controls movement and the other shoots.

AccessibilityAccessibility

This game supports accessibility, as described by Special Effect.

Mellow mode enables you to fly as much as you want, which makes progress easier. You also get more eggs when you eat enemies. You can turn this on or off at any time via the pause menu. In Mellow Mode there is a flashing flower indicator and rumble to let you know when you are near a flower. There's also a two-player co-operative mode where one player moves and the other shoots which reduces buttons for each player and gives you unlimited eggs to throw.

You can select between three button mappings, but you can't remap controls. You can disable the controller rumble feature. In two-player mode, you can jump on each other's backs so each player has just two buttons (walking and jumping/eating and throwing).

The text is generally large and of good contrast, although some of the dialogue options text is considerably smaller. You also have to target items in the background for extra points, these can be hard to see as they are similar colour, quite transparent or obscured and moving.
